4 JUNE - 18 JUNE 2015

Ajahn Dhammasīha will visit Thailand and Kuala Lumpur. He will attend the relic enshrinement at the new stupa at Luang Por Opart's monastery in Lampang, in the North of Thailand. Ajahn Hāsapañño, who has repeatedly visited Dhammagiri, lives close by at Wat Doi Mae Pang - this is a chance for Ajahn Dhammasīha to reciprocate and meet him at his home-monastery. From 14 - 18 June, Ajahn will be in Wat Pah Nanachat, to attend the yearly meeting of abbots & senior monks at Wat Nong Pah Pong, on occasion of Ajahn Chah's birthday on 17 June.

When living in a small community like at Dhammagiri, t is energizing and encouraging to occasionally take part in a gathering of many hundreds of bhikkhus. In the 7 Aparihāniya-dhammā, the Buddha pointed out that the Sangha can expect growth if the Bhikkhus meet frequently, meet in harmony, conduct Sangha-business in concord, and adjourn from their meetings in harmony. (Dīgha Nikāya #16).
The culture of harmonious, communal decision making in regular twice-yearly meetings is one of the important factors for the success of the tradition of Ajahn Chah. Even more than 20 years after Ajahn Chah's passing, it is supporting the further global growth and cohesion of this international lineage, which has monasteries established and ordains monks on 4 different continents.
Ajahn is looking forward to paying his respects to Luang Por Liem, meeting old friends, and receiving advice from experienced senior monks.

SUNDAY 31 MAY 2015 - VESAK
Dhammagiri  will commemorate the most important event in the Buddhist calendar: Birth, Enlightenment & Parinibbāna of the Lord Buddha with Ajahn Tiradhammo leading the proceedings. He arrives on 29 May and will stay with us until end of June. Most of you will remember Ajahn from his previous visits to Dhammagiri, including Visākhā Pūjā 2013. As Ajahn Tiradhammo has been for many years the abbot of Dhammapala monastery, located in beautiful Kandersteg surrounded by the Swiss alps, we have a most competent guide to lead our procession. With his experience of mountain trekking in Switzerland, we trust he will lead us safely up the steep driveway to Dhammagiri-summit. And when sharing his Dhamma-experience of 40+ years in the robes, we trust he will also be a great support for all of us in guiding us on the trek along the Noble 8-Fold Path to the end of all suffering .
With Ajahn Tiradhammo, Ajahn Ariyasilo, Ajahn Dhammasīha & Ven. Moneyyo, we will have a complete Sangha of 4 monks present.

THE BODHI TREE PROJECT HAS NOW BEEN FULLY FUNDED

Anumodana to all the generous people who made donations toward this project. The final touches, such as turfing, will be completed in the Spring following the Rains Retreat.

Much merit to everyone who contributed towards this project. Here is an image of the progress,
and how  the Bodhi Tree is looking, and growing happily now.
The Bodhi-Tree or wisdom-tree is a sacred symbol in Buddhism for a number of reasons:
• It represents the place of the Buddha's enlightenment, and is therefore sacred geographically.
• It is ancient. Some would say it is the mythical World Tree. Thus, it is sacred temporally.
• It represents growth towards liberation. Therefore, it is sacred developmentally.
• It was said to rain blossoms, and is thus sacred aesthetically.
